Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport Delegation Visits WHUT’s School of Navigation

July 14: A delegation from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt, led by President Farag and Director of the International Office Mourad, visited the School of Navigation. Representatives from Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT), including Deputy Director of the International Office Qiao Dan, Dean of the School of Navigation Liu Kezhong, Vice Dean Ma Yong, and young faculty members, participated in the exchange.


Liu Kezhong provided an overview of the School of Navigation. He highlighted significant potential for collaboration between WHUT’s School of Navigation and AASTMT in areas such as maritime talent development and smart shipping technology innovation. He proposed deepening cooperation through faculty and student exchanges, joint academic seminars on intelligent shipping, co-development of digital courses for maritime education, and hosting international academic conferences.

President Farag expressed strong support for the proposals. He stated that AASTMT would invite faculty members from WHUT’s School of Navigation for exchanges and initiate plans for reciprocal visits of teachers and students. He also requested the School’s expertise and curriculum support in inland waterway transportation.

During the meeting, young faculty members Chen Pengfei and Zhou Yang shared their research directions and achievements.

The delegation also toured the Maritime Museum and the Full-Mission Ship Handling Simulator during their visit.

Background:
 Established in 1972 under the Arab League, AASTMT is headquartered in Alexandria, Egypt, with branch campuses in Cairo, Aswan, and Jordan. It enrolls 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students and operates as a comprehensive institution integrating education, training, consultancy, and research in science, technology, and maritime transport.
