The Wuhan University of Technology Qingdao Research Institute is a high-end educational and research institution jointly established through a strategic collaboration between the Qingdao Municipal Government and Wuhan University of Technology. It is co-established by the Qingdao Blue Valley Administration, Wuhan University of Technology, Qingdao Science and Technology Bureau, Qingdao Education Bureau, Jimo District Government, and Qingdao Marine Inspection Group. The institute was registered as an independent legal entity in July 2018 in the core area of Qingdao Blue Valley.

The primary mission of the Wuhan University of Technology Qingdao Research Institute is to support Qingdao’s implementation of the marine power strategy, military-civilian integration strategy, and the major project for the transformation of old and new kinetic energy. The institute relies on the advantages of Wuhan University of Technology in materials, automotive, and marine sciences, combined with Qingdao’s policy, industrial, and regional advantages. The institute focuses on comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in scientific and technological exchange, the transformation of scientific achievements, high-tech enterprise incubation, and postgraduate training. The research institute is committed to areas such as new materials and military-civilian integration, modern marine science and high-end equipment, smart automobiles and advanced manufacturing, among others. It aims to build a high-level R&D institution that integrates five key functions: research platform services, talent aggregation, innovation and entrepreneurship incubation, technology transfer and transformation, and innovation talent cultivation, providing scientific, educational, talent, and industrial services to promote Qingdao's economic and social development, technological innovation, high-level talent cultivation, regional economic development, and industrial upgrading.

In the next 5-10 years, the Wuhan University of Technology Qingdao Research Institute will collaborate with Qingdao City to integrate their respective resources, focus on key development directions, and plan the construction of 15 research and innovation platforms. The institute will focus on major industrial demands, establish a technology transfer center, and actively promote the implementation and transformation of Wuhan University of Technology’s technological achievements in Qingdao. It will also build platforms for talent introduction and training, attract and nurture high-end talent and teams, provide professional training and technical services, and create an innovation and entrepreneurship service platform that integrates basic support, information services, capital services, technology services, intermediary services, and talent services, to provide incubation services for innovative and entrepreneurial enterprises.
